This competition aims to highlight the rich and vast Spanish art song repertoire along with traditional operatic repertoire.

Eligibility

Classical vocalists who live in Los Angeles, Ventura, San Bernardino, Riverside and Orange Counties.

Category 1: Ages 16-18

Repertoire Requirements:
1 opera aria OR art song in any language
1 Spanish language piece (this may include art song, Zarzuela, or opera).

Category 2: Ages 19-22

Repertoire Requirements:
1 opera aria in any language
1 Spanish language piece (this may include art song, Zarzuela, or opera).

*Please note, the video you submit for the online application does not need to be the repertoire you decide to use for the competition. The video recording does not need to be professionally done, a recording from your phone will suffice.

Audition Preliminaries

Our Auditions Coordinator, Mona Lands, will be in direct contact with you regarding scheduling for our in-person auditions. A pianist will be provided (at no cost), but you are also welcome to bring your own.

Competition Finals

Important Information

Singers must be recommended by their voice teacher or coach or a teacher or coach associated with their school.
Contestants may bring their own pianist OR use the Opera Buffs pianist at no cost. Brent McMunn is the official pianist of the competition. mcmunn11@gmail.com If you plan to bring your own accompanist, please note this in your application.
Adjudication will be based on technique, tone quality, intonation, interpretation, overall musicianship, presentation and potential.
THE DECISION OF THE JUDGES WILL BE FINAL.
Rights to any Competition performance, whether broadcast, televised, recorded or filmed, belong to the Competition. No fee is payable on account of these performances or any recordings, broadcasts, transmissions or film.
